What Is LEED® for Homes?
LEED for Homes is a voluntary rating system that promotes the design and construction of high-performance green homes. It’s a point-based system that takes a holistic approach by including mandatory requirements and points in categories, such as:
- Location and Transportation
- Sustainable Sites
- Water Efficiency
- Energy and Atmosphere
- Materials and Resources
- Indoor Environmental Quality
Why should LEED Certification be a goal? Certification not only demonstrates leadership, innovation, and environmental stewardship, but it also gives building owners and operators the tools they need to improve building performance and their bottom line. LEED is the most widely-known green building program, sought after by many homebuyers and renters who are willing to pay a premium.
