“For me to prosper in a career, I have to believe in the impact of the work I perform not simply the income I generate. To use my passion and develop the skills to improve the “roofs over our heads” is personally rewarding through the creation of benefits to both builders and tenants alike.“
Experience and Expertise:
David started his career and continues to this day in the outdoor industry, with REI. Work there emphasizes the importance sustainability on a large scale from manufacturing to distribution. It also highlighted the practicality and profitability in taking on the hard challenges of sustainable practices.
As an instructor in field navigation, kayaking and stand up paddle boarding for REI, David grew skills in leadership, teamwork and customer relationships. Duty of care to participants’ safety in wilderness environments and the company’s liability exposer instilled a strong since of responsibility.
The value of educating clients on sustainable practices in the retail environment and exposing them to the natural world through adventure has shown David a path to positively impact outcomes in building. Spending time in the wilderness, usually with scarce resources, gives immediate feedback in the mismanagement of those resources. Building materials and energy are many steps removed from where they are sourced and a blind spot to their true cost. Short term profits expands that blind spot to the long term detriment of cost and profitability of developing homes. David brings his understanding of wild places to bridge that disconnect between residential development and the material and energy those wild places provide.
David likes to bring his aptitude for technology and science to further his impact on the nature world through thoughtful building design. He has aligned himself with a company possessing broad knowledge and expertise to evolve his potential into practical skills and value for clients.
